Retro-fit Success

The WD Systems installation team have recently completed their first retro-fit of an edge-drive belt system onto the frame of a former capstan drum drive spiral cooler.

Retro-fit Success
The project for an independent pasty manufacturer in west Cornwall was a testing ground that has proved the versatility of the edge-drive belt system.

WD Systems were approached to help the client restore the reliability of a 25-year-old spiral and integrate it into a new production line in a brand new factory.

The project involved the team working over a two week period to remove the spiral cooler from its original location, transport it a short distance to the new factory, re-assemble the unit in its new home and fit the new belt.

The original drive arrangement was disconnected allowing the central drum to freely rotate with the moving belt. A new external drive frame was constructed off-site and fitted into place in the factory. The completed spiral has twenty tiers and a 1-metre wide belt and will provide the factory with many years of pain free cooling.

"This is the first time we have fitted an edge-drive belt to this type of spiral frame and we are pleased with how the project has come together and look forward to seeing it in production once the refrigeration is all in place." Said David Dearing, MD WD Systems.
